[Camp]

The 40th Regiment of Foot presents an 18th Century military camp as it would have appeared while the Regiment was on campaign. It is intentionally kept to a minimum, as this best represents the conditions the regiment endured while on campaign. The unit has several authentic enlisted mens tents that are raised and used by the soldiers in camp.

[Picture of Stacked Arms] The 40th also has acquired authentic camp kettles and at some events members establish a small camp kitchen and prepare proper meals. Vignettes of camp life -- the sewing, repair of equipment, drill, gaming, and other activities -- demonstrate how the British soldier lived. At selected events this living history display also presents some of the crafts and trades practiced in the 18th Century, such as blacksmithing, hatmaking, tailoring, leatherwork, dyeing of cloth, barbering, musical performances, and medical care.
