Cartridge Rolling Part II
Filling & Folding

Fill the paper tube with Black Powder.
Use either 110 grains of FFFg or 125 grains of FFg.

110 grains = level 1/2 tablespoon.

125 grains = heaping 1/2 tablespoon.
A brass powder measure with a built in funnel makes for quicker cartridge preparation.
Rotate the tube until the edge of paper that goes up and around the tube is barely visible at the tube base. This edge is marked with black ink for this presentation.
Press flat the empty portion of the tube, ie.the part above the black powder. (The cartridge had its top sides folded then unfolded prior to being photographed.)
Fold in both sides of the flattened portion of the paper tube as pictured.

Fold the flattened portion over 90 degrees as pictured. The fold should begin just above the powder.

Flip the cartridge over and it will look like this.
Fold the paper tail down 90 degrees so the top of the cartridge forms a point..
Note how the cartridge paper has a point at the top, and the paper tail extends down the cartridge.
Tuck the paper tail into the cartridge tube.
Note how the paper tail is held in place by the tube.
The finished cartridge. We have heard this is the 18th C. Prussian method of rolling cartridges. Whether this is true or not, we don't know. We do know this method creates a sturdy cartridge that transports well, can be stored bulk in cannisters, won't come undone if dropped, and is easily opened when you really want it open.

To use: tear open the pointed end of the cartridge.
